About us.
In nomadic Somalia every morning tens of thousands of school age children,
go out to rare camels, goats, sheep, and cattle. That is because
the opportunity of going to school is simply not there for them.
KEF (Kodmo Education Fund) was started to provide that missing opportunity
so that “left-behind” would be a choice rather than
lack of education at childhood.
KEF is a 501 (c) 3 public charity non profit organization exclusively
organized for the purpose of providing funding for the promotion
of education through building of schools, providing teachers for
those schools, and creating amicable environment for educating children
in remote rural nomadic Somalia, where children are without proper
school facilities to attend and/or teachers.
KEF was founded in 1998 by a group of Somalis in North America.
Its members are Somalis living in Diaspora as well as those in the
country. The supporting networks are mainly concentrated in North
America, Europe, and Somalia. As of now all our funds come from
individual donations given by immigrant Somalis.
The end result of our activities are already felt among the Somali
nomadic community. The best way to put it is “HOPE”
as the name KODMO suggests. It is our purpose and goal to give the
Somali nomad an opportunity to become a productive citizen of the
world that can lead a stable and prosperous life should he or she
chooses.
